Module evaluation – Bath Spa University

Module Evaluation

Provide anonymous feedback about the delivery, content, and assessment of your modules.

At the end of semesters, students are asked to evaluate the modules they have undertaken by completing a module evaluation.

The questions are consistent across all modules, and overall results are shared with students.

Who should complete an evaluation?

  • Any students who take a module delivered by Bath Spa University will have an opportunity to give us constructive feedback about different aspects of your module.
  • You are encouraged to complete a module evaluation feedback survey at the end of every module.

When will module evaluations open?

  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught modules open automatically in the last few weeks of your course. This is usually at week 13 for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

FAQs

What are end of module evaluations?

These surveys are one of the most important ways you can provide feedback on the different units that make up your university course. They allow you to have your say in the learning and teaching you receive.

Whilst you may have many opportunities to feedback on your module during the teaching weeks, the end-of-module feedback survey is to find out how it went overall, and at the point that we can make improvements for the next time the module runs.

Why should I complete the evaluations?

The success of your units and the features of your course that you enjoy are in part a direct result of previous student and staff feedback.

Completing evaluations also helps you reflect on your style of learning and builds your understanding of the sort of learner you are.

What happens with my feedback?

Module feedback is one of the key ways in which we gain insights into how students feel about Bath Spa University.

It is used to:

  • Link your feedback to real improvements for students, and to respond to their needs
  • Give all students on all modules the opportunity to give feedback on their experience
  • Allow module leaders to enhance the teaching and learning of the module for future delivery
  • Enable school leadership teams to analyse subject areas.

Staff will use the scores and feedback from them as part of their continuing professional development and as evidence at different stages of their career progression such as probation and promotion.

This is your opportunity to provide anonymous feedback about the delivery, content, learning resources and assessment for each of your modules.

Academic staff only see the responses as percentages or counts, they do not see individual or named responses and they do not nor cannot affect your marks.

Honest, constructive feedback helps us to know what works well and what we could improve!

Anonymity of responses

If a student does not include anything in the open questions that makes them identifiable, no one in the faculty will know who gave which answer. This includes staff who teach and mark on the module.

Centrally, the system can track who has responded so that reminders are not duplicated, and high-level analysis can take place. The results of this analysis will be presented in a way that does not identify any individual.

However, the University reserves the right to identify a respondent under certain circumstances, such as where they suspect a breach of the law or University policy and regulation or a threat to the welfare of a student, staff, or another.
